Why I Switched to Film for Getting-Ready Photos

I started shooting a few rolls of film during getting-ready coverage about two years ago, mostly as an experiment. I wasn't sure the results would justify the cost or the workflow.

They did.

There's something about the way film renders skin tones in soft window light that I've never been able to fully replicate in digital post-processing. The grain adds texture without harshness. The colours are warmer, more organic.

More than anything, couples respond to it differently. When they see film scans from their getting-ready photos, they often say it looks like something from a magazine — or a memory.

I now shoot one roll of 400H during every getting-ready session. It's become one of my favourite parts of the day.
